1. Basic information
2. Program’s goal
2.1. General goal: Providing theoretical approach and knowledge, basic and advanced research tools for learners to contribute to the training of highly qualified human resources with modern knowledge, closely linked to the realities of the tourism industry and capable of competing in the integrated world to meet current and future issues of science, technology and society.
2.2. Specific objectives: Providing learners with theoretical approaches and knowledge, research tools on cultural tourism, geography of tourism, tourism economy, travel and hospitality issues in Vietnam as well as in the world to train learners to become highly qualified professional tourism managers and consultants, capable of studying, teaching and practicing the tourism issues, having critical and creative thinking, manipulating tourism knowledge and methodology to solve problems of current and future human society.
II. Program’s outcome
2.1. Knowledge’s outcome
After graduating, learners must have a system of advanced and comprehensive knowledge, both theoretical and practical, in the field of tourism science (including theoretical and practical systems of tourism planning such as landscape, architecture; regional and area development like community development; economic management such as service quality management, market development; culture and psychology such as: tourist’s psychology, community’s psychology, religions, etc), having independent and creative research thinking, mastering important core values in study; developing principles, theories of research majors; having general knowledge of laws; organizating environmental management and protection; new thinking in organization of professional work and research to solve the complex problems that arise.
Learners deeply grasp the viewpoint of Marxist-Leninist methodology and apply to the research process.
Learners firmly grasp the scientific research methodology of tourism science and integrated fields; have a broad, and comprehensive understanding of the system of tourism; ability to apply those knowledge and methods in research and reality;
Understand the tourism theoretical system, tourism research methods and interdisciplinary approaches, with fundamental and in-depth knowledge of economic, political, cultural, social, environmental and tourism related fields.
Have in-depth knowledge of tourism issues: travel, hospitality, cultural tourism, geographic tourism, travel economics, tourism products, tourism resources and tourism related issues such as globalization, poverty reduction, foreign investment, sustainable development, conservation, cooperation in tourism development, tourism evaluation criteria, contemporary tourism issues.
Be able to creatively and independently apply the above knowledge in tourism research, teaching and practice.
Be expertise in theoretical and practical issues related to tourism, especially theories of advanced tourism research, tourism ethics, trends and contemporary tourism in the world and regions, the problems about geography, culture, economics and tourism.
Having the capacity to evaluate, manipulate, supplement, develop and socialize the above-mentioned specialized knowledge in the development of the country in the context of deep integration.
The doctoral theisis is an independent, systematic, scientific and methodical scientific research that has new contributions to science and/or practice in line with the tourism specialization.
After graduation, a doctorate in Tourism is likely to manipulate specialist knowledge in the study of issues related to tourism, travel, culture and hospitality, to teach tourism issues and apply tourism research methods and approaches to addressing the issues of socio-economic development in a sustainable way, preserving the natural resources of tourism.
The research results in the dissertation must be the research of the authors themselves, obtained mainly during the study period and not yet published in research works of other people. If using the results, documents of other people must be explicitly quoted. If the dissertation is a scientific work or a part of the scientific work of the collective in which the author contributes the main part, it must present documents expressing the agreement of the collective members authorizing the author using general results to write the dissertation.
The doctoral dissertation has a maximum of 150 pages A4, excluding annexes, of which at least 50% of the papers present the research results and the dissertation of the PhD student.
A dissertation summary of not more than 24 pages A5 reflects the structure, composition and contents of the dissertation.
The dissertation presents the most important content, new content and the most important contribution, with a volume of 300 to 500 words in Vietnamese and English
During the time of attending the doctoral program, there are at least 02 articles on the dissertation's research results, including 01 published in the scientific journals under the category of ISI journals – Scopus or having at least 02 reports in the international symposium or 02 papers published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal.
3.2. Skills
Having skills in identifying and analyzing complicated issues and providing innovative solutions to problem solving, creating new knowledge in the field of expertise, and the ability to set up a national cooperative network and international in professional activities, have the capacity to synthesize collective intelligence, leading professionals to handle regional and international issues.
Having ability to speak foreign languages (English), able to understand complex reports on specific and abstract topics, including academic exchanges in the field of specialization; Ability to communicate and exchange academic English in fluency with native speakers; explain their views on a problem, analyze the views from different options.
Having ability to analyze, evaluate and synthesize basic science and practical issues related to the research field.
Having critical thinking about economic, cultural, social and development related to tourism issues.
Firmly holding basic and specialized research skills related to the collection of materials in the field of tourism, including participant observation techniques, in-depth interviews, semi-structured interviews, questionnaire surveys, group discussion.
Mastering the basic and advanced techniques involved in processing, synthesizing, analyzing and interpreting tourist study materials.
Having comprehensive scientific writing skills.
Having the skills to present and explain scientific issues, publish the results of research.
Having ability to design, manage and deploy independently and creatively theoretical research and applied research projects related to tourism, culture, hospitality, sustainable development, destination management, management and use of resources, etc. Based on that, it is possible to propose appropriate policy solutions for policy formulation and implementation.
Having ability to participate, working, consulting, active counseling, effective activities related to tourism.
b. Additional skills
(*) Personal Skills:
Having independent and creative work skills, problem solving skills, teamwork skills, leadership skills, communication skills, creative presentation skills, presentations, explanations and exchanges of professional work;
Having ability to master popular computer software and some specialized software for the field, use the internet and email expertise, know how to effectively exploit the resources on the internet and use the common office equipments serving research, teaching and practice in the field of tourism.
(*) Teamwork skills: Having ability to organize, lead, develop topics, conduct research and other professional activities in groups.
(*) Foreign language-using skills: Well using foreign languages according to current regulations to exploit foreign-language documents, publicize works and present study results.
c. Capacity
Competency standards: capable of detecting, solving problems, drawing principles and rules in the process of solving problems, giving valuable ideas and evaluating prices, having the potential to adapt to the international integration working environment, having the capacity to lead and influence the strategic direction of the collective, capable of making proposals of the leading experts with a solid scientific and practical argument, the ability to decide on the working plans, management of research activities, development of new ideas and processes.

Having strong political will, good morals, active, self-reliance, upright, have a sense of critical thinking and a sense of community.
b. Professional ethical qualities:
Having the qualities of a specialist in the field of tourism, professional, honesty and creativenes in science and in the practice of tourism.
Having the sense of trying to fulfill the assigned tasks, having the spirit of independence in work and cooperation with colleagues, having the sense of preserving and promoting the interests as well as the national identity in relation to the foreign partners.
c. Social ethical qualities:
Having social ethical qualities such as patriotism, sense of serving the people, responsibility for society and community, having a sense of right and full compliance with the law and gorvernment's policies.
