PART I: GENERAL INTRODUCTION

2. Program objects
2.1. General objects
The Master Program in Philosophy provides students basic and advanced knowledge on Eastern, Western and Vietnamese philosophies in the past and modern days in order to help them to apprihend and solve practical issues from a philosophical perspective.
2.2. Particular objects
2.2.1. In term of knowledge: Students attain basic as well as advanced and modern knowledge about philosophies in the East, the West and in Vietnam.
2.2.2. In term of skills: Students are equipped with materialist dialectical method and know how to apply them in studying and teaching philosophy and other political subjects. Students are capable of independent research and group research, apprehending and solving practical issues from a philosophical perspective.
2.2.3. In term of professional ethics: Students have firmed polotical stance, hardworking, ethusiastic in studying, and serious in their professions.
3. Admission information
3.1. Entrance examination
- Admisison according to the Regulations of VNU-Hanoi.
- Examination subjects:
+ Basic subject: Marxist-Leninist Philosophy (for specialized major of Philosophy)
+ Foundational subject: History of Philosophy
+ Foreign Language: choosing 1 from 5 foreign languages (English, Russian, French, German, and Chinese).
3.2. Application requirement
- Have clean personal profiles and are not currently charged with criminal offence.
- Have bachelor degree in Philosophy or in other standard programs with an additional training to be equivalent with a bachelor degree in Philosophy.
- No requirement of working experience.
3.3. List of correct, compatible, and near majors
- Correct major: Philosophy.
- Compatible majors: Scientific Socialism, Religious Studies, Political Education.
- Near majors: Citizenship Education, History, Political Sciences, Sociology, Psychology, Political Economics, Cultural Studies.

PART II: LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE PROGRAM
1. In term of knowledge and research skills
1.1. In term of knowledge
1.1.1. Generic knowledge
- Foreign language efficiency at basic level in listening, speaking, reading and writing equivalent to level 3 in the 6-level frame of foreign language efficiency of Vietnam.
1.1.2. Foundational and major knowledge
- Students are in control of major knowledge and capable of becoming professionals in the field; capable of critical thinking; capable of processing new knowledge and training in doctorate program; having comprehensive knowledge in laws and regulations regarding the trained major;
- Students have systematic knowledge about types of worldviews and philosophical methodology, especially about Marxist-Leninist philosophy;
- Students are sufficient in term of Vietnamese philosophical thoughts in history and today;
- Students are able to identify socio-political issues in Vietnam and on the globe in the context of integration and globalization.
- Students are able to utilize philosophical methods and interdisciplinary knowledge to conduct philosophical researches:
+ Discovering issues that are of public concern and need to be studied.
+ Identifying particular research questions, constructing research outlines, filtering and processing relevant data.
+ Suggesting solutions for practical issues.
+ Generalizing and conceptualizing research conclusions into theories.
- Students have in-depth knowledge about foundational philosophical issues such as «Human in scientific-technological revolution», «Rule of societal development in history of thoughts», «Oriental cosmology», «Philosophical thoughts on religions», «Market economy and ethics in Vietnam», «Historical development and its rules», «Democracy in Vietnam and on the globe»...
- Students have firm knowledge about Western history of philosophy from ancient to modern time.
- Students have decent knowledge about Western contemporary philosophical movements, including Marxism, through studying key texts.
- Students have systematic understanding about the state of laws.
- Students have knowledge about ethics and Vietnamese traditional ethics as well as its transformation in the situation of market economy and globalization.
- Students understand can can apply theories into intepreting social movements.
- Students have knowledge about aesthetics, Chinese philosophy, philosophy of science and technology, philosophy of cultural exchange and acculturation, social ethics and civil society.
1.1.3. Graduation thesis
- Students are able to speculate a doable topic.
- Students have overview of materials related to the topic and are able to analyze and make comments about them.
- Students can specify research goals and missions, research object and methods.
- Students know how to solve research missions.
- Students can suggest solutions and advice which are contributive and appllicable.
1.2. Independence and responsibility
- Students are able to recognize and solve issues related to their major; to direct themselves toward further development; to adapt to competitive working environment; to draw professional conclusion, defend and be responsible for them; to build and assess projects; to teamwork in professional and administrative activities; to assess and make decision related to their appointed mission.
2. In term of skills
2.1. Professional skills
- Students are able to perform complicated tasks and deal with unexpected, irregular problems; to study independently and develop new solutions and technique in their educated field.
- Students can study and teach philosophical subjects.
- Students can recognize philosophical issues in the practice of economic, politics, society and culture.
- Student are able to identify and generalize basic contents of their research topics.
- Students can select the right methodology for their research.
- Students can choose the accurate approach and specific methods.
- Students know how to build research outline to process their studies.
- Students are able to filter and work with research materials, to generalize overview and philosophical standpoint to direct further studies.
- Students can utilize qualitative and quantitative methods to collect data for their research and know how to process them using tools such as STATA, EVIEW, SPSS.
- Students are able to form and test scientific hypotheses in order to answer research questions and solve newly emerged problems.
- Students can compare theories and practice in order to draw conclusions and suggest solutions in term of both theory and practice.
- Students know how to summarize research results in the format of a scientific paper or article.
- Students can form and manage a research group/project efficiently.
- Students are capable in term of knowledge and methodology to guide undergraduates in conducting their thesis within their specific major.
- Students can participate in projects as advisors and organizers and assess them.
- Students are able to participate in building and criticizing social, political, cultural and scientific policies in various level depending on their posts.
2.2. Soft skills
2.2.1. Individual skills
- Students are able to suggest and conduct a scientific project, to design a syllabus and textbook, to write scientific articles. Students also can gather information and update their knowledge about new trends in philosophy in the country and worldwide; to actively adapt to changes in their professional fields and working environments; to communicate and exchange ideas in academic conferences.
2.2.2. Teamwork skills
- Students are able to cooperate with other in conducting scientific projects and assessing the outcome of research and teaching.
2.2.3. Management and leading skills
- Students can mobilize manpower within their organization to accomplish short-term and long-term goals; know how to respond flexibly and lead their team to success under the changes of situation.
2.2.4. Academic foreign language skills
- Students possess foreign language efficiency at the level of being able to understand an article or a speech in that language within their major; can communicate and express their ideas in foreign language in most of the academic situation; can write basic academic paper and are able to present and comment on an academic issue in foreign language.
2.2.5. Computer skill
- Students can use Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
3. In term of ethics
3.1. Personal ethics: Students are good citizens who are enthusiastic about their job, loyal to their organization, have working principle and responsibility, are honest and respect solidarity, has self-reflection and are not factionalists nor opportunists.
3.2. Professional ethics: Students have an objective attitude, responsibility, professionalism. They can bravely express their personal ideas for the sake of the development of their organization and can confront and overcome difficulty in their work.
3.3. Social ethics: Students have respect to and care about people, have influence within their organization, have responsibility with their community, and act for the sake of social development.
4. Employability
- Graduates can work as teacher and researcher in the fields of philosophy, political theory education in universities, colleges, and institutes in Vietnam.
- Graduates can work as policy makers in administrative offices of the government and other organizations.
- Graduates can do research work in political institutes.
5. Higher education capability
- Graduates are able to independently analyze and solve problems emerged during practical activities at their working places
- Graduates are capable of self-study in term of theoretical and practical issues related to philosophy.
- Graduates are capable of pursuing doctorate courses in various majors: Dialectical Materialism and Historical Materialism, Scientific Socialism, Religious Studies, History of Philosophy, Ethics, Aesthetics, Logics, etc... and become specialists in these fields.
