The seminars are open to all lecturers, staff, students and interested participants. The seminars are an opportunity for students to engage with both academic researchers and policy-makers on diverse areas of public policy.
The seminar will provide to participants an overview of China's new foreign policy, particularly those related to ASEAN countries in particular and Asia in general. Recently, China has proposed a raft of economic initiatives that capture the imagination of ASEAN members and others, even if these initiatives — such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and One Belt, One Road — do not ultimately deliver promised results. Furthermore, China, ASEAN, and the rest of Asia are also negotiating the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which will become the trade centerpiece of the region.
In this context, several crucial questions arise: What are major impacts of China’s rise on ASEAN countries? And what could ASEAN countries, and in particular Vietnam, could and should do to response to this challenge?
