PART 1: GENERAL INTRODUCTION
+ Vietnamese: Hán Nôm
+ English: Sino – Nom
+ Vietnamese: Cử nhân ngành Hán Nôm
+ English: The Degree of Bacherlor in Sino – Nom
The program aims to produce bachelors excellent in both political quality and specialized capacity, capable of collecting, preserving, translating, researching, exploring and teaching Sino – Nom.
Graduated students are well equipped with knowledges and skills necessary to approach and resolve Sino – Nom texts, in service of developing an advanced Vietnamese culture deeply imbued with national identity in an integrational and communicational era.
PART II: PROGRAM OUTCOME STANDARDS
1. Specialized knowledges and capacities
1.1. Knowledge
Graduated students have advanced theoretical knowledge in educated field; be capable of employing trained methods and experienced practices to handle complex task; accumulate general knowledge of fundamental principles, natural and social laws of educated field in order to develop new knowledge and acquire higher education program; be able to govern and manage, acquired related knowledge about law and environmental protection; in possession of knowledges and capacites as detailed below:
1.1.1. Interdisciplinary knowledge of politics, economy, culture, science and technology
- Acquire knowledge of fundamental principles of Marxism – Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Ideology as well as the revolutionary line of the Communist Party of;
- Acquire general knowledge of economy, society, government and law;
- Acquire necessary natural science knowledges in order to analyse social science data.
1.1.2. Fundamental knowledge of social sciences and humanities
- Acquire social sciences’s fundamental knowledges of scientific research methods;
- Acquire Sino – Nom related knowledges of other social sciences (such as: Fundamentals of Vietnamesse Culture, General Sociology, History of World Civilization, Vietnam History…), begin to apply learned knowledges and interdisciplinary methods successfully to approach and research Sino – Nom.
1.1.3. Knowledge of philology
- Firmly acquire fundamental concepts of Linguistic, General Vietnamese language study, Vietnamese Mediaeval Literature; be capable of employing learned knowledges to resolve specialized particular fields;
- Firmly acquire knowledge of Chinese characters and Nom characters such as: a brief history of Chinese characters, evolution of Chinese characters shape, the six categories of Chinese characters and radicals in Chinese characters, the right order of writing Chinese characters, outline of Nom characters…
1.1.4. Knowledge of Sino - Nom
- Acquire fundamental knowledge of Sino – Nom and the field of Sino – Nom study by understanding elements made up Sino – Nom such as ancient Chinese writing, ancient Vietnam’s Chinese writing, Nom characters and Nom texts…
1.1.4.1. Knowledge of ancient Chinese writings
- Basically be acquainted with texts, terms, grammars, contents of the Four Books (Analects of Confucius, Great Learning, Doctrine of the Mean and Mencius) and the Five Classics (Classic of Poetry, Book of Documents, Book of Rites, Book of Changes, Spring and Autumn Annals) by analysing their notable excerpts; capable of employing gained experience to decode other Sino – Nom texts;
- Can approach chosen Chinese writings categoried by schools and periods, capable of employing gained experience to decode other Sino – Nom texts;
1.1.4.2. Knowledge of ancient Vietnam’s Chinese writings
- Have general knowledge of the evolution, functions, periods, features as well as notable authors of Vietnam’s Chinese writings;
- Have the ability to realize and analyze the most fundamental features of Vietnam’s Chinese texts on behalf of each periods and styles such as: Vietnam’s Chinese Writings from 10th Century to 14thCentury, 15th Century to 18thCentury and 19th Century to 20thCentury.
1.1.4.3. Knowledge of Nom charactes and Nom texts
- Firmly acquire fundamental knowledges of Nom characters and Nom texts in respect of their origin, construction, evolution; Practically translate Nom texts to modern Vietnames and analyze Nom texts of each Vietnam’s historical periods.
1.1.4.4.Theoritical specialized knowledge
- Firmly acquire fundamental knowledges of Sino – Nom’s heritage, Textology for Sino – Nom studies, Classical Chinese Grammar,…
1.1.5. Knowledge of traditional culture
- Acquire fundamentals of Vietnamese culture as well as Vietnamese traditional social organization;
- Acquire fundamental knowledge of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism in respect of history, general ideology, main authors, notable texts…
1.1.6. Have language skills (listening, speaking, reading) as equal as the minimum of Level 3 of Vietnam Standardized 6 levels Test of foreign language proficiency.
1.2. Autonomy and responsibiliy
- Can take the lead role in trained specialized fields; creatively accomplish given task; be self-adjusting, self-oriented in different types of work environment; capable of being self-taught, actively accumulate knowledges and experiences to advance specialized capacities; can give correct answers to general specialized questions and some technically complex subjects; capable of making plans, inspiring team’s intelligence; be able to judge and improve specialized activities at medium scale.

2.1 Specialized capacities
2.1.1. Career Skills
- Capable of employing specialized thoeritical and pracitcal knowledges to resolve complex task; can analyze, synthesize, judege informations and datas; can synthesize every opinions in working team and make use of new scientific and technological achievements to resolve practical or metaphysical questions in educated field; can use learned knowledge to directly resolve local and regional tasks;
- Can work independently using learned knowledge to explore, resolve all types of Sino – Nom heritages;
- Capable of employing Sino – Nom’s skills and research methods to solve interdisciplinary works relating to history, sociology, litterature, culture…
2.1.2. Skills to argue, think and resolve question
- Can pratically detect and overview question;
- Can effectively search for specialized datas using internet as well as libraries;
- Can effectively make use of searching tools such as: books, digital Sino – Nom datas, computer, internet…;-
- Have basic skills of appraisal to examine Sino-Nom texts;
- Can introduce, describe Sino – Nom texts; can sentence, spell, translate, note and analyze common Sino-Nom texts.
2.1.3. Ability to research, explore knowledge
2.1.4. Capacity of systems thinking
- Capable of analysing, evaluating and exploring different values of Sino-Nom by employing every direct or indirect related knowledge of Sino-Nom in respect of history, society, culture connected by systems thinking to explore traditional values covered under Sino-Nom heritages in service of Vietnamese society’s requirement; keep the link between tradition and modern connected using modern theoritical and interdisciplinary research.

2.1.6. Context of organization
- Be aware of organization’s context, become adapted to work’s requirements in different types of organization (University, Institute, cultural management, archive, conservation and museum, media, tourism…)
2.1.7. Applying learned knowledge in real life
- Firmly acquire fundamental features of different types of common Sino-Nom texts and methods to practically analyze actual Sino – Nom texts;
- Can practically collect and analyze actual Sino-Nom texts; be able to register, catalog, document and note informations from texts, pictures, scans…

Sino – Nom graduated students can be recruited to collect, conserve, translate, research, teach Sino-Nom at universities, colleges, institutes, cultural gorvenment agencies as well as social organizations.

Graduated students can advance to higher graduate programs according with regulations of Vietnam National University Hanoi.
