2. Objectives:
The program is aimed at training students of Vietnamese studies who have got strongly political and ideological viewpoint; keep good discipline and professional ethics; be useful for society; be healthy; have good knowledge of social sciences and humanities and relatively wholly and systematical knowledge on Vietnamese studies; have practical skills on international relation and good social communication; have good communication skills and be able to work in one foreign language. The bachelors of Vietnamese studies are able to work in governmental office, both Vietnamese and international organizations and enterprises...

PART II: OUTPUT STANDARDS OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM
1. Knowledge and professional skills
1.1. Knowledge
The graduates in this training program will have deep professional theory of the major; mastering techniques and practical knowledge in order to solve complex tasks; accumulating the background knowledge for the basic theories, the laws of nature and society relating to the major in order to develop new knowledge and to continue studying at a higher level; having knowledge of management, administration, law and environmental protection relating to the major; and having detailed knowledge and professional skills in the following:
1.1.1. General knowledge
- Mastering the basic knowledge and fundamental principles of Marxism and Leninism and Ho Chi Minh ideology, the revolutionary line of the Communist Party of Vietnam;
- Mastering the basic knowledge of economy, society, government and law;
- Mastering and applying the knowledge of the natural sciences to solve the data of social sciences;
- Minimally getting third level of foreign language in the frame of 6 level of foreign language competence for Vietnam.
1.1.2. Knowledge by sector
- Mastering the basic knowledge of research methodology of the social sciences;
- Mastering the basic knowledge about social sciences and humanities; being able to apply knowledge and multidisciplinary methodology in approaching and researching Vietnamese Studies.
1.1.3. Knowledge relating to the major
- Mastering the basic concept of linguistics, Vietnamese linguistics, Sino – Vietnamese, Vietnamese literature; Being able to apply the knowledge to deal with specific fields of the major;
- Mastering some general knowledge about stylistics, aesthetics, anthropology and media; being able to apply knowledge to study and research in Vietnamese studies.
1.1.4. General knowledge for the major
- Mastering the basic knowledge for the major such as: Vietnamese history, Political system, religions and belief, modern and medieval Vietnamese literature…;
- Mastering and creatively applying knowledge on Vietnamese society, theory and practice of translation including interpretation and text translation.
1.1.5. Knowledge inside the major
- Mastering basic knowledge on Vietnamese culture as well as other compulsory knowledge about the system of Vietnamese traditional society such as: the Vietnamese performing, the Vietnamese village, traditional fine – arts and the architecture of Vietnam, ethnic Vietnamese, the vestiges and landmarks in Vietnam, food art and Vietnamese tourism…;
- Mastering the basic knowledge about some professional skills relating to the major such as tourism skills, office skills, journalism skills, teaching skills; being able to creatively apply for specific activities;
- Mastering the knowledge of linguistics and Vietnamese; being able to apply for teaching and researching on Vietnamese studies;
- Mastering the knowledge of specific foreign language relating to Vietnamese studies (in English); being good at researching foreign documents to serve for training and researching;
- Mastering the basic knowledge of Vietnam and ASEAN relationship; the interaction of the asean countries in history and in the process of modernization and globalization.
* Requirements of intership and graduation
- Mastering the knowledge and practical experience of researching in Vietnamese studies in the internship;
- Mastering the deep knowledge about one field of Vietnamese studies which is researched for a thesis; the developing skills of researching, analyzing topics skills and creating the outline and development of a graduation thesis;
- Mastering the basic knowledge of linguistics and Vietnamese culture;
- Mastering the knowledge of the history of safeguarding the Vietnamese people.
1.2. Skills on autonomy and responsibility
- Having the ability to lead on trained professional skills; having initiatives in the process of implementing tasks; having self – guided ability; being able to adapt to different working environments; self – study; accumulating knowledge; updating experience and professional knowledge and skills; be capable of giving conclusions on professional issues and normal skills and some complicated technical issues; being capable of planing, administration, motivating group intelligence; be able to make adjustments and expand the professional activities at an average level.

- Being able to complete complex tasks which require the application of both theory and practical knowledge on the trained major in different situations; having the ability to ananlyze, generalize and evaluate data and information, convey the group’s ideas and apply new techniques for dealing with both pratical and abstract issues in the major; being capable of providing professional guidance to solve problems in the local areas and regions.
- Having the skills to teach Vietnamese studies;
- Mastering skills in teaching Vietnamese as a second language;
- Mastering skills in tourism activities and office administration;
- Mastering skills in interviewing, journal writing, editing;
- Mastering and implementing skills on researching on Vietnamese studies.
2.1.2. Skills on creative thinking and solving problems
- Mastering skills in identifying problems, events, phenomenon, needed social process of research;
- Having skills in making questions and hypothesis in researching;
- Having skills in creating the theoretical frame work for research issues;
- Having skills on identifying necessary methods for research in Vietnamese studies.
2.1.3. Ability to do research and explore new knowledge
- Developing proficient skills in building up research outlines;
- Mastering practical research principles;
- Mastering and implementing the methods of collecting and processing data, recognizing research issues.
2.1.4. Systematic thinking skills
- Mastering skills on logic and giving explanations for researched issues;
- Mastering skills in making solutions and recommendations to solve the issues of Vietnamese society;
- Having skills in presenting research achievements in scientific reports;
- Having skills in presenting research achievements in articles and monographs.
2.1.5. Social context and surroundings
- Being able to take part in creating projects; organizing and implementing projects on social – economic development;
- Being able to take part in evaluating the effectiveness in the process of implementing projects on social – ecomonic development;
- Being able to take part in formulating policies on culture, society… in Vietnam.
2.1.6. Organizational context
- Having skills in gathering researchers;
- Having skills in organizing, administrating and developing group research.
2.1.7. Skills on applying knowledge on pratice
- Mastering debate skills;
- Mastering skills in generalizing, recognizing the special issues in Vietnam;
- Mastering cognitive skills to motivate the goods and limit shortcomings in Vietnamese culture.
2.1.8. Ability to be creative, develop and lead changes
- Having skills in adapting to the environment;
- Having skills in extending the scope of research in Vietnamese studies at the multidisciplinary viewpoint;

4. Some positions which students can apply for after graduation
- After graduation, the bachelors of Vietnamese studies can apply for positions in the cultural, political organizations, social education, science education and foreign organizations…;
- Bachelors in major of Vietnamese studies have skills in teaching and research of culture, history, literature, Vietnamese. Therefore, they have the ability to work in universities, colleges, institutes relating to the major…;
- Bachelors of Vietnamese studies ae able to work in journals, media companies, companies, offices and center of teaching Vietnamese for foreigners.
5. Ability to study and upgrade after graduation
Bachelors in the major of Vietnamese studies can continue to study graduation and post-graduation in the major such as: culture, literature, history, ethnic culture, literature of some Vietnamese minorities, tourism, journalism, linguistics…

- The credit units for sub_major B is for international students.
3. Admission Requirements:
3.1. Learners must have high school graduations or equivalent certificate;
3.2. Vietnamese qualifications can meet the academic requirements set down by National University regulations. Foreign students must take a Vietnamese language proficiency test before being admitted to the Faculty. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is supervisory body.
* Foreign students are exempted from the Vietnamese proficiency test if they meet one of the following requirements:
- Have graduated with Vietnamese language specialization overseas;
- Have graduated from Vietnamese language preparatory classes for foreigners at the Faculty or Vietnam specialized training in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, recognized by Hanoi National University;
- Have graduated from a university with Vietnamese language BA degree programs
3.3. Provide a health certificate from a authorized health agency;
3.4. Provide evidence of financial support necessary to meet the costs of studying and outside activities.
4. Admission Procedure:
4.1. Application form;
4.2. A notarized copy of high school diploma or equivalent certificate (with the translation into Vietnamese or English);
4.3. Copies of high school transcripts notarized or certified by the authority (with translation into Vietnamese or English);
4.4. Certificate of accumulated learning outcomes in foreign or Vietnam universities (if any);
4.5. Evidence of qualifications allowing exemption from Vietnamese tests;
4.6. Health certificate issued by an authorized health agency in a foreign country or in Vietnam;
4.7. Commitment to ensure adequate financial support for living costs, educational fees and extra-curricular activities;
4.8. 4 photos sized 4 cm X 6 cm (taken no more than 6 months prior to submitting an application for admission).
5. Tuition fee:
$ 1,400 / year x 4 years = $ 5,600
6. Services for Students:
6.1. Student card:
A student card will facilitate your learning and research at the VSL. To register for student card, you need to prepare one 3x4 photo and submit it at the VSL office. After 2 weeks, your student card will be ready for collection. You are responsible for carrying your student card with you whilst you studying at VSL.
6.2. Library:
In addition to thousands of books in the library of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VSL’s document room is also available to serve your needs.
6.3. Reference letter and letter of confirmation of student status
If you need a reference letter for another library or letter confirming your student status, you can go to the VSL office where our staff will give you specific instructions.
6.4. Other activities:
While studying at VSL, you can participate in various programs organized by the Universities or Faculty. In addition, you will have the chance to take part field trips related to your program of study, which will provide you with additional information about Vietnamese places, culture and people.
If you are applying from abroad, you may apply for a visa for a duration of 1 year, 6 months, 3 months or 1 month. You should pay the visa fee to the Vietnamese Embassy in the country where you receive your visa and pay the visa fee:1,000,000 VND.
